Cleaning Your Tub and Sink Without Chemicals

Your bathtub and sink are problematic areas that require intense and proper cleaning to restore them to their original, clean state. Many homeowners are understandably not keen on cleaning them since it often involves chemicals – not only are they harmful to your skin but they might damages the tiles, too. Read on as Handyman Connection of Butler Warren discusses how to clean your bathtub and sink effectively without chemicals.

Mold and Soap Scum on the Tub

Mold has an easier time developing on your bathtub due to the warm and moist conditions, and they can be tricky to get rid of, too. Instead of reaching for chemical soap, try using vinegar. It’s a proven mold killer and it loosens even the stickiest mold and kills it. Spray your tub with a vinegar solution and let it settle for around five minutes. Rinse it with water and reapply the solution if necessary.

Soap scum is another problem for tubs and showers, and you can easily strip them away using dish soap mixed with baking soda. This forms into an abrasive paste that you can use to scrub away the soap and other stains. You can even use them on grout lines.

Cleaning the Sink

You can actually use the same vinegar or dish soap scrub to clean your sink. Your bathroom’s vanity area doesn’t experience the same level of grime compared to your bathtub, so a strong solution isn’t necessary. We recommend you mix ½ cup of dish soap and vinegar, a cup of water, and two cups of baking soda.

This mixture is strong enough to strip soap scum and grime off the surface of your sink, and it’s not that abrasive so there’s no risk of you damaging the surface at all. Just make sure to wash the solution properly with warm water to prevent the paste from settling.
